Gratuitous Baby Photo

So tired. So busy. So dangerously close to that slippery slope of skipping a day of blogging… which becomes two… which melts into a once-a-week thing… and then gets abandoned altogether. But I’m also stubborn as all get out. So darn it, you’re getting a post. The way I figure it, a gratuitous baby photo is better than nothing at this point. Especially when it’s of uber-cute monkey boy junior jr. Still, I am hoping things get back to “normal” soon. Cross your fingers for sleep for us, won’t you?

Monkeyboy Junior Jr.

Daddy experiments with a new “do” for the baby. It makes me want to dress him up as a “Who down in Whoville” for Hallowe’en, don’t you think?

Completely Random Randomness

I’m afraid that the baby’s reflux has been totally kicking my arse lately, leaving me wickedly tired and incredibly uninspired (as if you haven’t noticed). And so, in lieu of enjoying some awesome photos or cool crafting or whatever, you get to put up with this kind of shite…

  1. I would rather spend 5 minutes at the beginning of a meal picking out the things I don’t like (like chunks of green pepper or celery, which I would never put in a dish) than trying to eat around them. In my mind, the meal will then be fully enjoyable rather than oscillating between being good and a-pain-in-the-arse.
  2. I have a moderate stash of unbelievably soft and fuzzy socks that I keep in my nightstand for those nights when my feet need a bit of extra heat and lovin’.
  3. When I was young, I remember my mom asking one day which my favourite animal was, and for lack of a real favourite at the time, I said I kind of liked panda bears. From that day forward, I was inundated with panda posters, panda figurines, panda mugs, panda books, and of course, panda themed clothing. I was schlepped off to not one, but two “Breakfast With The Pandas” at the zoo, and  brought back a variety of kitsch from mom’s trip to China. Now, I frikkin’ hate pandas. <Insert “sad panda” joke here>.
  4. I used to spend hours… seriously, HOURS… drawing my own Garfield comics.
  5. My favourite kitchen utensils include my lemon zester, my mandolin, and that one long handled red spoon.
  6. When I was in university, I told my mother about some cool photos I had seen of New Mexico, and how one day I would love to drive down there, photographing all the cool places along the way. Months later, she had booked a trip – for herself. She came back with lots of nice pictures and gifts for everyone. To this day, I am very reluctant to share my closest dreams with anyone.
  7. I have only ever lived in Calgary and briefly in Edmonton (from birth to 3). Lately, I’ve really had the itch to go somewhere new. I think it has something to do with an inner desire to reinvent myself and redefine my family.
  8. I used to be completely anti-second-hand (my mother was somewhat of a snob). Nowadays, some of my favourite items have come from Value Village – including my black leather jacket, the baby’s play kitchen, that one expanding suitcase with the really funky latches…
  9. When I was a “tween”, I remember going on a weekend trip with a friend of the family named Penny. She was smart and beautiful and I totally looked up to her. She taught me how to french braid my hair, totally kept her cool when the car broke down in the middle of nowhere, and hand made me a pair of leather and fur moccasins (which were super cool in the 70s!!!) She’s the one who told me that washing your hair daily can be quite damaging, and as a result, I’ve trained my hair to not need washing except maybe twice a week.
  10. I often wish I was wealthy enough to build my own eco-community and invite all of my dearest friends to move there so we could experience a true community lifestyle – sharing childcare, cooking big meals, helping each other out in times of need. (I think I watched The Waltons too much as a child.)

So, there you have it. TMI for a Thursday.

You’ll Have To Excuse Me…

It’s been one of those days. Or nights, rather. The kind where you get waaay less sleep than normal, and everything gets much more difficult the following day. Suffice to say I am barely making sense at this point, so rather than bore (or amuse?) you with my bleary-eyed rantings, I spent nap time napping instead of blogging. Cross fingers for sleep tonight and I’ll try again tomorrow. ;)

Sleepy Baby

The baby doing something he could not seem to last night. I love how kids can sleep all “bums in the air” like that.

T.G.I.F.

Gentle readers. As you may have figured out (by the clear scarcity of creative projects over the past few days) it’s been a challenging week for me. Long story short, once again several nights of very little sleep have had their sinister way with me, leaving me tired and uninspired. Yes, I tried a few quilty butterflies and movement photos, but overall, have produced nothing to “write home about”. That’s just the way it goes sometimes. *sigh*

On the plus side, I’ve done a few housekeeping kinds of things that will hopefully make things a bit easier when I actually do get some more sleep. Like deciding to use an organizer for my paper leftovers (which had previously been shoved haphazardly into various envelopes) and sorting pieces by colour for easier access. Yes, I will likely still be pulling out a bunch of pieces and scattering them all over the table as I work, but at least now I won’t have to search through multiple envelopes to find just the right pieces to sprawl.

Paper File

The new paper organizer – my son helped me with the labels.

I also did a little shopping this week. I found some nice 5×7 wooden frames (for a whopping $3 each!) to “finish” the quilty critters and make them “craft sale ready”. I also picked up a couple of designer paper pads – where the colours and themes are already coordinated for you – and am giving myself permission to use them for the quilty critters instead of relying on just my leftover scraps. I rounded it out with some new watercolour paper and a rainbow of felt-tipped markers, so I’m excited to play with my new toys when time permits (i.e. when I’m once again using nap time to create instead of to try and catch up on a few ZZZs).

Scrap Pads

Designer paper pads…ooh, fancy.

I also decided to change my mind about some books. Even though I am still not going to actually sit down and read The Artist’s Way right now, I found a few books on-line that totally caught my attention and made me want to know HOW to do some things. Like digital layering and photo manipulations. Like different techniques to inspire oneself. And, well, some good old fashioned Walden and Leopold for the nature girl in me that doesn’t get “out” as much as I’d like. At least not alone and in silence so much these days.

Rainy Days

A quick “nature” shot. From the car. As I was driving. *sigh*

And aside from throwing together a few posters for a contest for Loose Moose, and working on their new web page – all things that you may see elsewhere at another time – that was my week. Well “creatively speaking”, at least. It’s weird. I feel like I’ve let you down for some reason. All six of you who regularly tune in, that is. ;) But, as my friend Christine reminded me, ultimately this blog is supposed to be to motivate me, and I shouldn’t worry so much about my people pleasing tendencies. Old habits die hard, I guess. And with that, I’m off to work on some costumes for a Star Wars themed birthday party. Yup. That’s how we roll around here. Have a great weekend, y’all.

Ant Lily

It’s been an ants-in-the-lilies kinda week, that’s for sure.
