Angry Birds Hat

Angry Birds Hat

A little while back, my 7-year-old asked if I could make him a hat like mine. The hat he is referring to is the one I crocheted and then blogged about here. When I explained to him that my hat had flowers all over it because I loved gardening, and that his hat should have something that he loved on it, he got to thinking about what that might be. For a while it was stars… Then it was happy faces… And then, it was Angry Birds. Now, for those of you who may not be familiar with Angry Birds, let me clarify – I am NOT referring to some random birds that are ticked off about losing their habitat or something, I am referring to these – from a game that Monkeyboy Jr. plays on his iTouch. Sure. I could do that.

So. First we discussed a colour scheme and picked up some yarn (some inexpensive acrylic this time – a mere $3 per 100g on sale vs. oh, $12 per 100g (!) for the organic cotton I used last time). Then we looked up images of the birds and drew some sketches (simplifying where possible). Finally, we made a plan and I got to work. Yesterday morning. With the basic hat and the two cardinals done by bedtime, he was begging me to wear it to school this morning. Until I explained to him that I couldn’t work on it at all during the day if he took it to school…and he relented. And work on it all day I did (much to my 2-year-old’s dismay). Oh, well. Here is what the hat looks like now.

I think he’s going to be pretty pleased…   (FRONT)

Yup. I’d say so. 😉   (BACK)

And now… to figure out how to crochet mittens. Wheee!

    1. They have only seen the hat, and they seem to like it. The teachers, however… Monkeyboy Jr. left the hat at home today (thinking I needed it to work on the mittens somehow) and I got a note in his agenda from one of the teachers requesting that MBJr. bring the hat to school tomorrow as he (the teacher) has heard so many good things about it… Too funny!

  1. Hey this is awesome! Is there any way you could post the pattern for this? Or email it? It is just awesome!

    1. Sorry, Kenzi.
I kind of just make it up as I go, in fits and spurts between chasing my 2-year-old around. Which doesn’t leave time to write any of it down and pass on the pattern… Sorry.
      =/ K
