August Break 2012 – Day 18

August Break 2012 – Day 18

Summer is a time for kicking the kids off the computer and outside…

… for escaping into the coolness of the basement to play…

… and for random neighbourhood children’s shoes at the door.

But where we live, it’s also the only time for…

Our old-fashioned drive-in shut down years ago, so nowadays, you can watch a movie “outside” at one of these events. Tonight’s feature: Drive-In…diana Jones!

We’d never been before, so we just loaded up the car with treats, blankets, and stuffies…

… and a giant bag of popcorn…

… and we headed down to the inflatable screening!

We got there a couple of hours early to get a good spot, so we went in to the mall for some dinner and dessert…

… and then we wandered around the craziness.

Clearly, some people had done this before and had come prepared.

We saw wagons… card tables and folding chairs… even a cat on a leash!

The kids did some crafts whilst we were waiting for the movie to begin.

And got a turn in the bouncy castle as I enjoyed the smells coming from the Kettle Corn and Mini Doughnut booths.

We had a great time just hanging out (while daddy got a few minutes of quiet to enjoy his ice cream).

The boys made a few more last minute crafts (stickers)…

… awwww…

… then it was time to head back to the car.

Group shot from the back of somebody else’s truck.

Monkeyboy Jr. decided he wanted to watch from the roof.

I’m certain his brother wanted to join him, but it was much safer for him inside the car. Popcorn showers notwithstanding.

I finally got to dig into my Cinnzeo treat. Note to future Kate: sugar after 9pm is not at all conducive to a good night of sleep.

The movie started, and things were going well… for about 5 minutes. Monkeyboy Jr. got cold on top of the car, and his younger brother got bored FAST. Lots of shuffling about ensued. Which drove daddy crazy.

But I tuned out much of it, and just enjoyed the movie – even with the whiny children. Who managed to stay awake for the entire thing, even though they weren’t even watching it!!! Crazy.

Would I do it again? Yes! But maybe not a grown-up movie with children-in-tow. After all, I didn’t even get to make out. 😉
