August Break 2012 – Day 29

August Break 2012 – Day 29

Autumn is coming. You can feel it in the crisp morning air. The “back to school” shopping. The shortening of days. I don’t know about you, but I am feeling the need to squeeze out every last possible drop of what remains of summer that I can.

Yesterday, it was time to cross “frog hunting” off of our list.

We geared-up and walked to the man-made pond near our house, enjoying the various sights along the way…

I had no idea one could grow cherries in Calgary. Anyhow.

In spite of serious efforts…

… the most interesting thing we managed to catch…

… were fresh-water / fairy shrimp.

Though these discs (of what I believe are some sort of insect eggs) were pretty cool too.

And walking through dozens of rapidly darting (and, uh, “paired”) dragonflies was a bit surreal as well.

We made it around the whole pond. Monkeyboy Junior only lost his boots in the muck by the water twice. And then it was time to head home for lunch.

Smelling of pond and sunshine. Ahh…

That evening, with the weather forecast calling for cooler temps on the way, I decided we should head out for a picnic dinner.

We once again geared-up (I swear, this will be known as the “pants-less summer of 2012”)…

… got in the car…

… and after a quick pick-up at KFC, we hit the park.

The boys were far more interested in playing than eating…

… though attempts were made to do both at the same time…

… which was fine. As it gave us a chance to just chill out. For a time.

I managed to snag a few minutes to just kick back…

… which was lovely, except…

… for the reminders that it will soon be winter once more. *le sigh*

    1. We decided to leave the littlest at home as I’m fairly certain he would have ended up “soaping wet” and beyond crabby. But the eldest and I had SO much fun! I think I’m still 12 at heart… 😉
