Healing Heart Bath Mix

Healing Heart Bath Mix

Today I got my “kitchen witch” on and mixed up a batch of my latest favourites for the bath. I call it the “Healing Heart” mix, as it contains numerous ingredients with just that intention {and as you may well (or not) know, that is what I believe any kind of “magic” is all about… the psychology of intention… but I digress}. All “magic” aside, it is a very soothing and relaxing (and pretty) addition to any bath.

Drying Flowers

First, I collected organic rose and borage petals from my garden and dried them in a big bowl. I left the bowl on the kitchen island so that I could remember to mix it up / aerate it every time I walked by. It only took a couple of days to crispify in our dry climate.

Yellow Rose

According to my “The Magic of Flowers” book by Tess Whitehurst,

“Simply gazing at a rose blossom and inhaling her sweet, clean, and heart chakra-opening fragrance can lift your spirits, clear your mind, and align you with your truest and most divine self.”

Rose is proclaimed to have magical uses ranging from abundance, beauty, clearing and blessing, dreams, emotional healing, friendship, protection, purification, secrecy, self-love, spirituality, and yes, even romantic love. And although it was far too overpowering of a fragrance for me to appreciate when I was young, I have grown to love rose – in moderate doses.

Borage

The star-shaped (pentagonal) borage flower is said to encourage protection, courage, and psychic powers. It is also rumored to be somewhat spirit-lifting, helping to relieve the symptoms of depression. Whether or not you believe in such things, both flowers are safe to use (when organic) and very beautiful to watch floating around the tub. Especially by candle light. Just be sure to try and scoop out the majority of petals before you drain the tub, lest you clog something. 😉

Next, I mixed two kinds of salt: 1/8 cup Coarse Himalayan Crystal Salt, and 1 tbsp Coarse Grey Sea Salt, both obtained at health food stores and very food safe.

Salt and Oils

To this, I added some essential oils: 3 drops tea tree (for its antiseptic properties), 6 drops rose absolute, and 17 drops of lavender (for its relaxation properties). Then I added some more “mystical” oils, obtained at Ascention Aromatics in Calgary: 3 drops “Peace of Heart” oil (a mix of rose geranium, lavender, vetiver, tangerine, sweet orange, Peru balsam, rose & neroli), and 1 single drop of rose quartz gemstone oil (for the heart chakra). The result is a not-overwhelmingly floral sweet scent, with a hint of a healing (in a spa kind of way) edge.

Mix the salt and oils. Add 1/4 cup dried floral petals, and put in a 125ml canning jar. Add the whole jar to a full, hot bath.

Jars of Bath Mix

I made 2 small single batches, ran out of small canning jars, and then made a double batch for a larger flip-top jar I found in the bottom of the cupboard. I just have to remember to only use half of it at a time.

Healing Heart Bath Mix

The result smells absolutely divine and looks incredibly beautiful!

Healing Heart Bath

I can hardly wait for the next bath time! Wheee. Anybody (local) want to try a jar and give me some feedback? =)
